New Blog!

Long time no see!

I thought I should finally tell you that I use a new blog and you can find it here (<--clicky).

Well this is going to be long..

I don't even know where to start so I'll start with the most recent and go backwards ha.. We got a new car! Yay! It's a 2008 Ford Edge.. okay so not brand new, but it's new for me. It also has 40k less miles. It's pretty much the base model with a few 'upgrades' like power windows and locks (um I thought that was standard on every car), I can sync my phone, and I can control the volume and radio station from the steering wheel. It is more a month, but we plan on refinancing it in 6 months to a year because by then a lot of our debt should be paid down or even off.

The breaking point of getting a new car was we were driving home from looking at houses we were interested in buying (and actually got pre-approved for). We turned down the street our apartment complex is on (which is a very busy street) and I'm driving and all of a sudden the car stops accelerating. I push the pedal to the floor and nothing. By now the battery light is flashing at me so I coast into a parking lot. It was definitely not like before when it stopped accelerating because before at least the car would still go. I turn the car off when I get into the parking lot and start to try it again and the engine turns over, but it's like it stalled (when you're in a manual car) and the battery light comes back on. We knew it wasn't the battery because all the lights and radio was working and the engine turned over. I finally get it started and raced home. I felt like the faster I went the less likely it would stall haha!

The next day we used Eric's car and I just took him to work and then went about my day. We were both done with the Passat. That was the last straw. We knew we'd be upside down with the trade in, but it's worth it to have a car that we can rely on. So that day we went to Ford and got the edge! Luckily the Passat made it all the way up to the Ford dealership without dying and through their little test drive. Only thing was the AC decided to go completely out that day. Normally it took about 10 minutes for it to get cold, but between stopping to wash the car and stop at the convenient store and then driving all the way up there it was almost an hour and it still didn't work. That car was a mess. And being a VW it was very expensive to get fixed. Needless to say we now have a Ford Edge :)!

We're also going to visit his family in mid July up in Minnesota for a week and we're driving. Between the price of Bentley's boarding and the price of plane tickets it'd be over $1,000. And well.. that's just not possible for us right now so driving it is. We'll take two days to get there.

Eric is getting deployed shortly after that, but it's not for very long and it's in a decent (well considering) so it won't be too bad.

I'm still working for Bank of America, but still looking for another job, preferably in the hospital since that is what my degree is in.

I think that's it for the most part. I'll try and update more.

Car Hoopla

So Eric got a new car and everything was great until two days ago. We went to Target, came back out and it wouldn't start. It got power, but wouldn't turn over. Great. Eric thought maybe it Vapor Locked which isn't really something we can fix, it just happens with heat/humidity. He tries 5 or 6 more times and it doesn't start. We sit there for 5 minutes and he tries again and all of a sudden it started. Great, maybe it just needed to cool down.

We get home and he turns it off and tries to turn it on and once again, nothing. He text one of his friends and told him what was going on and he came over the next day (yesterday) and had no idea what was wrong with it. Eric then thought maybe it was the spark plugs so off to Auto Zone we go. This morning he's taking them off and putting the new ones on when he gets to the last one and the old one breaks off. Um.. it's not suppose to do that. He then looks around and starts to notice a bunch of hardware that is missing and a lot of bolts that are stripped from over tightening and a lot of the stuff that is suppose to be done in the service inspection at the dealership wasn't.

By this time he's just mad that after 5 days of having this car it doesn't start and the previous owner took a bunch of shortcuts and the dealership didn't do what they were suppose to. He called them a little bit ago and told them to come and get it. He's now waiting for the manager to call him back to see what is going to happen.

Now we get to start the car looking processes over again. Lovely.

Definitely not a good teller

I suck at it... That's an under-statement. I get so nervous with a lot of cash that I mess up and boy did I mess up today. I don't even know where I messed up, but I did. I was short $988.18. I know I didn't just hand someone $988.18 so it had to have been a button or something I did wrong... or multiple things. I count the money 2 or 3 times depending on the amount so I'm just confused. I keep going through the customers in my head to see if I can think of the one or ones I messed up on.

Before I did my end of the day balancing to find out I was short almost 1k I got yelled at by a customer. I'm assuming he's from a country where women aren't equal to men because he was a complete asshole. So much, my manager had to step in. I got so pissed I was shaking. Twit. Go back to your effing country.

Just an update

It's been awhile since I've updated this blog. I've been at my job for almost three weeks and today I start by myself today. Scary stuff. Eric has weekend duty this week as well (he had it last week too).

Last weekend we were on the freeway and something blew in the car. It almost sounded like we ran over something and a tire blew out, but then all of a sudden our Passat sounds like a turbo diesel, except has no horsepower. We get off the freeway and we are in the middle of the ghetto. We putt our way to Carmax to find out they're closed. Get a ride to the Airport to rent a car from the Enterprise (the only one open in the whole city) since that is what Carmax told us to do. We get there only to find out they won't rent us a car because we don't have a credit card. Whaaaaa?! We are now stuck at the airport. I call Brittany (another military spouse I met out here) and her and her husband come to our rescue to drop me off at the house and Eric off at work. By this time it's 5 (Eric had to be in at 1645). He made it just in time. He didn't get out until 0100 and walked home. He finally got home at 0230 and passed out. His direct supervisor for the weekend said she would take the Sunday morning shift since it was at 0500. He gets a text at 0830 saying he needs to come in ASAP because it's his weekend duty and it doesn't matter if he needs to take a cab. I text Brittany and they come to our rescue once again.
[That stupid Sgt just didn't want to be there anymore because she partied too hard the night before. She wasn't even in uniform when Eric showed up.]
They chauffeured us around for the next day and finally Monday night we got the car back after getting it towed to a muffler shop.

We also got approved for a car loan through a credit union so now it's just trying to find a car within our budget that Eric likes (which is harder than getting the damn loan).

Other than that nothing too much going on. I'll try to update more often.

Bentley and his boarding (rant)

We went out of town this week and boarded Bentley at the same place we take him for training. We have spent a great deal of money at this place between training and various products.

We upgraded him to a 'suite' which is his own private room, with a TV and bed that they provide. I can also log in online and watch him at any time. We also brought his blankets and a toy. The blankets were not his his room as of yesterday or the day before. I would have thought that if he had an accident they would wash them or at least give him some of theirs. Nope.
Then earlier today I logged on and he was ripping off the cover to the bed so I called and told them. They came in and took the bed out. Okay teach him a little lesson. Though, I thought they would at least give him something to lay on (whether it be blankets or the bed) for the night and the rest of his stay. Nope. It's 10:30 at night and he is curled up in a ball in the corner on the floor with no blankets or bed. I'm pissed. We picked this place to board him because I trusted them, even though it definitely wasn't the cheapest and then on top of that we put him in a suite.

They will definitely be hearing from Eric or me and we will be reconsidering if we keep using their services.

Who got a job?

I GOT A JOB! Lol! Yes, finally I got hired by Bank of America. This actually works out 100x better than the first location I interviewed at. The one I got hired at is less than 3 miles away from the house. I'll start out as a part time teller, but it sounds like since it's a small branch people get promoted pretty quickly.
I've thought about applying at the casino out here to do part time cocktails to just have some extra 'fun money'. It's still up in the air so who knows.

Eric got picked to do a TDY next week. It's only like 6 days and his command said I could go. He's going down for the Air Show and everyone has told him it's kind of a free vacation. Excited! It's about 2 hours south of here. He was told they normally don't let level 3's (what Eric is, since he's right out of tech school) go to this TDY, because it's normally used as a reward for 5+ levels. So he's super excited.

Comp day.. Where are you?

Eric has worked some pretty crazy hours and days lately. He had to work the Air Fest Last weekend so he worked two weeks straight and was suppose to work this past weekend as well, but was lucky enough to switch with someone. He finally got his comp day today so it was a nice 3 day weekend.

Saturday was a friend's Birthday so I took her to lunch and Sunday Eric, me and Brittany all went to explore the beaches over in St. Pete and ended up in John's Pass again until it started raining, just like last time. Today we went to a furniture store to start looking for a new sectional and dining room table. No luck.

Bentley has been having issues with going to the bathroom in his crate while we're gone. And not just number 1. I've asked a bunch of people and have heard everything from "he might have worms" to "it's just a 'teenager' phase" to "it's separation anxiety". Personally, I believe it's combination of the last two. He also ripped up a little bit of carpet in the bedroom too. So now there is the big hole in the dinning room and the little bit in the bedroom. Though, I think we can get away with the one in the bedroom.

We're still looking at other apartments and houses so when Eric deploys we can get out of this lease and move in somewhere else. We're so tired of being here it's ridiculous.

Photography

So as some of the people who follow this blog know I have a few other blogs that I keep up with as well. I have a food blog where I document recipes and things I've made, I have a blog that has a lot of info for new military wives with spouses going through BMT and tech school and I have a photography blog that I recently started really getting into.

I've always played around with my cameras but never really edited my photos or took it seriously. Recently I started taking more and more photos, and not just of Eric and I, but animals and scenery and started editing them. I'm really beginning to love it. So I'm going to keep updating that blog as well if anyone would like to follow that too.

You can go to it here.

Going Green.. kind of.

We are not a 'Green Family' be any means. We don't buy anything organic and use store bought chemicals for everything. I figure if my parents have used them for this long and everything is fine and dandy, whats the use of spending more money on organic food and eco friendly cleaners. I found this website with tons of tips on how to use Vinegar for everyday things, mostly cleaning. Vinegar is definitely cheaper than buying all the different types of cleaners. I figured I'll start using tips on this website to see and see if it really does clean as well as the store bought cleaners.

Such a strong woman

I frequent an online forum for military spouses and there was an article posted this morning. This wife is heading to FL on Friday to make funeral arrangements for her husband. They have a young (infant) daughter. I hope I, or fellow military spouses never have to go through this.

You can read the article here.

Weekend Fun

This past weekend was pretty fun. Saturday we went to the Strawberry Festival with a friend that I met down here. It's not what I expected and it was so crowed, but still fun. There were a ton of carnival rides which was pointless for us. Though, we had some awesome chocolate covered Strawberries.
These are a couple pictures I took:

Sunday we went to the dog beach right down the street from our apartment with a lot of the guys for Eric's shop. It was extremely windy, but we had a blast. Bentley loves to go, but he's a chicken and won't go very far into the water. He's a bully and doesn't realize how big he is. Here are a few pictures of that day:

It's been far too long

It has been forever since I updated. Part of the reason is because I like posting pictures with each blog entry and I can't find the cord to my big camera that I normally use.
A lot has happened since the last time I blogged, so get ready for the longest entry ever.
Let's see, I'll try and do this in order but I'm not making any promises.

About a month ago we finally got our new washer and dryer! (yay!) They're Kenmore Elite HE3 Steam. They're awesome. We got them in Blue, but that was total coincidence. We were going out for an early Valentines dinner at PF Changs and the wait was 45 minutes to an hour (I know, ridiculous) and Sears was right next door so we thought we'd stop in and see what they had. I went in there a week before looking for an accessory they didn't have and saw this gorgeous blue washer and dryer set on sale for about $750 a piece. They were on sale because they were getting rid of carrying that color in that model so they were the floor models. Who cares? All it didn't come with was a manual, but you can log onto sears website and download it. Though, it was still more than what we were looking at spending. Eric and I talked about it and figured we'd wait for something a little cheaper, even if they weren't going to be as good of quality.
Fast forward to when we were at PF Changs. We went up the escalator and BAM! there they were AND they were even cheaper! They were now marked down to $435 each. They retail starting at about $1100 each, but can usually find them on sale for about $800 or so. It was meant to be :) We went to dinner, came back and bought them and they were delivered two days later. It uses so much less water and the dry time is cut in half. Our clothes have also never looked or felt so clean.

We've been to a few events at the St. Pete Times Forum. We went to Nuclear Cowboys, which is a freestyle dirt bike and quad show and my first hockey game. Both were a blast and we definitely plan on going to more things.

Bentley is doing good in his classes and is now in level 3. He knows all the basic commands and walks really well on a leash. Though, he still has accidents in the house from time to time which is getting old. We've been taking him to the dog beach and he loves it. He always gets the most looks, which I think he enjoys a little too much.

I went back home for a week while Eric stayed here to work and take care of Bentley. I had a great time seeing everyone and helping my mom move. We both miss everyone more everyday. People will just start having to come here to visit ;).

I applied for a Bachelor program for Health Administration at the University of Phoenix today as well as filling out my FAFSA. Hopefully I'll get a good amount of grant money, because student loans just aren't appealing. It sounds like a pretty cool school. It's only one class at a time and one night a week, but four hours for five weeks. I guess after the first couple classes I can try and take more than one class at a time which would definitely be what I want to do. They also have the option to not take all the breaks that most universities have which would allow me to graduate sooner. I'm excited so we'll see what happens.

Hm.. I think that is it for now, but I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Back or no back?

I want the back piece to the entertainment stand really bad, but Eric isn't a fan. I don't know if it's worth the extra $100 to get it? What do you think?

With the back

What we have now without it

Keurig!!

My mom is awesome and sent me a Keurig! She bought one and for whatever reason it didn't work for her so she sent it to me! SCORE! I've used it every morning since and it's perfect! AND the Keurig and KA StandMixer match! Even better!

Tax Time!

I finally got our taxes done and we got back more than I thought we would. Which is always exciting! We were debating for a couple days what we were going to do with it. At first we were going to get a washer and dryer so we don't have to rent ours through our complex anymore, but then we thought about a new sofa & love seat or a sectional and a dinning room table. We were looking around at couches and everything we were finding was just not what we were looking for. We're going to have to wait until our budget is a bit bigger for a purchase like that, though we did end up finding a rug that was originally $200 and on sale for $60

We decided to look at TV's and see if there was an amazing deal or anything since we already had a really nice 52" DLP TV. The only problem was it made the living room look tiny. We stopped by Best Buy and found a 47" for $799 and they were going to give us another $50 off of that so we walked out with a new TV. We then went to Wal*Mart and Ikea to look for a TV stand. We finally ended up getting a more contemporary piece from Ikea. We still have to get the back piece that will go behind the TV, but it looks fine without it.

Here is the new setup
Our walls don't look so golden in real life.

In this picture you can see the rug (kinda)

Decisions Decisions

I posted early how we are thinking of using our tax return for a new washer and dryer, but we always think about what else we can use it for. Obviously we can pay off a bill or two with it, but I'm tired of $40 a month to rent our washer and dryer from our apartment complex. We have couches that we got off craigslist and covered them with slip covers. They do their job but obviously not something we plan on keeping forever. Since we are in a one bedroom tiny apartment I thought about getting this sectional sofa bed from IKEA.

Though, I've also been eying something like this

or

which is close to half the price. I'm assuming because it's not a sofa bed. I wish I could get the 2nd two styles in a sofa bed. If we got one of the 2nd styles we could also get a dinning room table. Haha, but then what to do with Bentley's kennel?

I totally forgot

To update on our Anniversary!
Our one year wedding anniversary was about a week and a half ago. It was a pretty relaxed day. We woke up late, Eric cooked biscuits and gravy (yum!) and slowly got ready for the day. We decided we were going to go to Texas Roadhouse for dinner (I know not very fancy, but we've been craving it since we left TX and it's about a 45 minute to an hour drive to get there). Eric also took me shooting on the way to dinner for the first time. It was a blast! I finally shot his gun and really learned how to use it. I definitely feel better about it being in the house now. I do want to try a 9mm to see if it's a little easier for me to handle. We'll get up there again eventually. We forgot to have our waitress take a picture of us at dinner.. oops. So I took a few when we got home and were relaxing on the couch.

We couldn't get any pictures of me actually shooting because the place didn't allow cameras, but I kept this for a souviner. These were my last two rounds. It almost seemed like I got worse at I kept shooting haha! I think I would do better with a 9mm. If you look closely you can see there are a couple right in the crotch area (I knew I was aiming for the right place!) ;)

EEEEK! YAY!

I finally got a KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer last night! YAY! I have been wanting this for so long now, but couldn't wrap my head around spending $200+ on a mixer.

We were at Lowes looking around at the washers and dryers when I saw that the Stand Mixers were on sale. I was originally looking at the Classic (unless I could persuade Eric into getting me the pink Artisan) because it was at least $100 cheaper and does the same thing. Lowes had a black Artisan originally priced at $285 (which is normally priced at $300 everywhere else) and then discounted to $199. We were still kind of on the fence and looking through what else they had when we noticed that the black one was actually $159!! SCORE! But wait a minute they didn't have anymore! :( We were allowed to take the floor model which doesn't come with a manual or two of the normal included attachments (bread hook and flat beater) BUT I already know how to use it so no need for the manual (especially when you have internet) and the 2 attachments are $30 together at most. We took the thing up to check out and got an extra 10% off because Eric is military (another score!) and then found out we also got a $30 mail in rebate and a free cookbook!

All in all I got a $300 Stand mixer for $120. I couldn't be happier! Now if only I can find a sale like that on a Keurig! :)

I can't wait to use it!!

We also found the washer and dryer we want, but can't decide if it's worth spending our whole tax return on. I really don't know if we should get something cheaper that we will probably replace in a few years or spend the extra money on something we both love that will more than likely last awhile. Hmm.. decisions decisions. I want these..

Job? Meh.. who needs a job?!

Well.. I DO! I've been on the hunt for a job before we even left Sheppard and it has proven much harder than I thought. Of course I've applied for jobs that I had little hope in getting because I'm sure there is a better candidate out there, but things like Target, Starbucks, BofA and various department stores don't exactly require much education or training and yet.. NO LUCK! I had an interview with Starbucks yesterday and I should see within a week if I'm hired. I'm just going to give up and be a housewife forever! ;)

The Air Force messed up on our DLA (Dislocation allowance) again, for the 2nd time. So now we have to wait another 7-10 business days before we'll see that money. We've been here a month and a half and should have had this money in our account before we left Sheppard. But what can you do when you have to wait for the military?

Eric got a new tattoo on his right shoulder blade and he said it was quite painful! Haha! It's healing nicely and is starting to look normal (color wise).

As always here are a few pictures..
Eric's new tattoo

Obviously I've been replaced! ;)

He stubbed his toe! Haha!

Part of our cool anniversary gift from my mom!

Bentley on the trip to FL

He had to be right in the middle of us!

Ya he was a little drugged up! :)

Finally

I've finally decided to update this thing. Well, we are finally in FL! Woohoo! We found an apartment right off base. It takes Eric 10 minutes 'door to door' to get to work. It's not exactly what we were looking for and it's a little small (Bentley lives in the dining room), but we can't beat how close it is to the base. Here are a few pictures of our apartment..

This should be our dining room, but as you can see Eric's tool box, a bookshelf, my sewing table and Bentley's kennel took over. Good thing we have a coffee table.

Don't mind that one couch is lighter and has mismatched blankets all over it.. it's Bentley's couch. Yes he has a whole couch to himself.

Eric has been off more than he's been working since we got here and it's been wonderful! He just had Christmas Eve through yesterday off. We had a great Christmas at his Aunt Jaci's house and a wonderful uneventful New Years Eve. We also went to Busch Gardens on New Years Day and had a complete blast! It was an overcast day and rained for about an hour in the morning so it wasn't busy at all! We got to ride every ride at least 3-4 times without a wait. All in all it's been a good process of checking out the new area and settling into the new place. Here are a few more pictures..
